Malabon City – In a swift and decisive operation, operatives of the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) of the Northern Police District (NPD), led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Alain Terence L Licdan, Chief DSOU, arrested a male suspect for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) in relation to the Omnibus Election Code.
The arrest took place on April 30, 2025, at around 10:30 PM along Lapu-Lapu Avenue corner Martiniko Street, Barangay Longos, Malabon City. The suspect, a 31-year-old driver from Navotas City, was apprehended after he was seen picking up an improvised firearm during a commotion involving a group of men reportedly throwing stones at each other.
DSOU operatives were conducting casing and surveillance operations against wanted persons in the area when they noticed the disturbance. As they moved in assess the situation, several individuals fled, leaving behind the suspect who was seen in possession of a locally made firearm, commonly known as a “sumpak”, with an inserted makeshift magazine loaded with one live ammunition intended for a .22 caliber firearm.
The suspect was immediately arrested and brought to the Ospital ng Malabon for medical and physical examination, and was later turned over to the DSOU office at about 11:55 PM of the same date for documentation and filing of appropriate charges before the Office of the City Prosecutor.
This accomplishment underscores the effectiveness of the National Capital Region Police Office’s (NCRPO) AAA Strategy—Able, Active, and Allied—a holistic approach to reducing crime and combating illegal activities. By enhancing personnel capabilities, conducting proactive operations, and strengthening community ties, the NCRPO remains committed to promoting public safety and crime prevention across Metro Manila under the leadership of Police Major General Anthony A Aberin, Regional Director, NCRPO.
Police Brigadier General Josefino D Ligan, District Director of the Northern Police District, commended the efforts of the DSOU team, stating:
“This operation reflects our continued commitment to ensure peace and order in our communities. We are proud of the dedication shown by our personnel in protecting the public, especially during the election period.”
