Caloocan City – May 23, 2025 — A tragic road mishap along C3 Road in front of Lazada Hub, Barangay 22, Caloocan City, claimed the life of a 61-year-old tricycle driver and injured a cyclist after being struck by a truck in the early hours of Friday morning.

The fatal incident occurred at around 5:35 AM and was promptly reported to authorities at 6:30 AM. Initial investigation revealed that the tricycle, driven by a 61-year-old male, was traversing westbound in the outermost lane of C3 Road with a cyclist, identified as a 54-year-old male, ahead of him. A heavy truck operated by a 35-year-old male driver, was trailing behind both vehicles.

Upon reaching the location of the incident, the truck’s right side collided with and dragged the left portion of the tricycle for several meters. The force of the impact caused the tricycle to swerve and sideswipe the cyclist. The tricycle driver was thrown to the pavement and was rushed to Tondo Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival at around 7:45 AM by attending physician Dr. Pabalate. The cyclist was brought to Caloocan City Medical Center for treatment of sustained injuries.

The truck driver was brought by arresting officer of Sub-Station 1 – Caloocan City Police Station to the same hospital for physical examination and was immediately placed under arrest. He was informed of the nature of his offense and apprised of his constitutional rights in a language he understood. The case is being readied for filing, pending the completion of necessary evidence.

“This arrest highlights the swift action of our personnel. Proactive measures like this are essential in preserving peace and order,” Police Brigadier General Josefino D Ligan, District Director of the Northern Police District, stated.

The Northern Police District extends its condolences to the family of the deceased and assures the public that justice will be pursued with utmost diligence and impartiality.
